Mill-Town Roots on Low Ground

Spray Foam Insulation in Autaugaville serves a small town in western Autauga County with deep roots. The first settler, William Thompson, built a gristmill and sawmill on Swift Creek about three miles above the Alabama River, and a cotton mill opened on the creek in 1849. The Civil War and Reconstruction closed the factories, and a lumber mill ran on and off until the 1930s. The town incorporated in 1907 and counted 795 residents in 2020.

The lowest town on our list

Autaugaville sits at about 157 feet, near the creek and the river lowlands. Low ground and humid summers mean crawl spaces here can stay wet. We check grading, gutters and standing water before anything else, then recommend a sealed crawl space or closed-cell foam under the floor.

Older and modest homes

The population was about 440 to 460 from 1930 through 1960, jumped to 870 by 1970 and has hovered between roughly 680 and 870 since. Much of the housing dates from the middle of the last century. These homes usually benefit most from attic air sealing and depth, crawl space work and attention to ductwork that runs through hot or damp spaces.

Rural outbuildings

Many properties include sheds, shops and barns. Closed-cell foam on steel stops condensation drip and helps a shop stay usable in summer.

Insulating a farmhouse

Older farmhouses around Autaugaville often have additions from different decades, each with its own framing and insulation. One room may sit on a crawl space, another on a slab, and the attic may be split into sections with no easy way between them. We look at each section separately and price them that way. Sealing the joints where additions meet the original house is often as important as adding insulation, because those seams tend to leak.

Autaugaville Questions

Do you make the trip to Autaugaville?

Yes. Autaugaville is a short drive west of Prattville, and we serve homes and farms around it.

My crawl space floods after heavy rain. Can you insulate it?

Not until the water problem is fixed. Once drainage is sorted out, a sealed crawl space or closed-cell foam on the floor will hold up. We can point out what we see during the inspection.

What should I insulate first in an older house?

The attic and crawl space, in most cases. Sealing those two areas and adding insulation gives the biggest comfort gain for the money.

My house has additions from different years. Can you still insulate it?

Yes. We treat each section as its own area, check how it connects to the rest of the house and quote each part separately.
